For many of us who live in the suburbs of Los Angeles County, we get so used to the bright lights, loud noises, and constant feed of information that we forget to slow down, disconnect ourselves for just a moment, and focus on the most important things in life–each other. When we arrived at the Walnut Grove on the Tierra Rejada Ranch, we were surprised to see how relaxed and calm everyone was, without the rush and commotion we normally witness in the hours leading to a wedding. Everyone was offering a helping hand, and for a moment, everything seemed to slow down and just fall into place. With our setup well ahead of schedule, I got a chance to look around and snap a few shots here and there.

I didn’t understand this finger touching thing at first until a Dragonball Z fan spotted it (yes, us Asians apparently all must have at least one Dragonball fan friend) and explained the whole fusion dance thing. Apparently the fusion of two men = one woman. Good thing it was temporary.

I practically drive by this place every day going to and from downtown LA, and never knew it existed! Straddled by the 5 and 110 fwys, railroad tracks, gas stations, Home Depot, and fast food, we found ourselves setting up our booth at the LA River Center and Gardens, a beautiful oasis with mission-style buildings, gardens, and fountain.

It was closing time for us, but no one ever wants to see the photobooth close while guests are still having a good time. The nice people that we are, we left the photobooth running while we started cleaning up. Right after we pulled the rear curtains off they wanted to see how many they could cram in the picture. 21. Blackjack. That’s how many. With the rear curtains still up, they probably couldn’t fit that back row, so it would’ve been 15. Still pretty awesome. How many can you fit?

Monterey Park Photobooth: Judy & Nhien

We had our own wedding reception here many many moons ago and we’ve been here plenty of times for dim sum, but it was completely transformed on this evening by Platinum Peaks with floor to ceiling drapes, up-lighting, and accents. Great stuff.

In the beginning…

A little more than a year ago we decided to commit more to our photobooth. So we challenged ourselves by taking it to some of the most discerning reviewers on earth: Yelp Elite. It was a good opportunity to get some feedback and find out how we can improve.

This elite-only event just so happened to have a bad-hair theme, so the photobooth was perfect for them to ham up and show off their hairdos (and don’ts). The host, Gyenari, had great atmosphere and put out a really generous buffet of Korean BBQ that managed to fill quite a few bellies. Unfortunately the restaurant is closed now, the food was great, but we heard it was a bit overpriced.

Ella & Sam :: Wedding Music Video :: Cobra Starship – “You Make Me Feel”

Introducing Ella and Sam, the newest and hottest married YouTube sensations to star in a music video on their wedding day at the always beautiful Langham Huntington in Pasadena.

Apparently the video has gone viral in the wedding blogosphere (here, here, here) and the infectiousness is oozing from our photobooth o_O Before you continue, let me warn you in advance this song has been stuck in my head for nearly TWO WEEKS now.

When Elysium Productions called to let us know what was going to happen, I could barely contain my excitement to be part of this very ambitious undertaking. Not only do the videographers have to cover the entire wedding event, they also have to squeeze in the takes necessary for the music video, with the bridal party, guests, vendors, and venue all on board to do their part. Not to mention all the pre-shoot research, planning, and production craziness to make sure the video is done before the end of the reception to show as their SDE (same-day-edit). It was definitely a project that only an experienced team like Elysium could pull off. Wedding planner Carolyn of The Special Day made all this coordination look far easier than it really was.

I will share details about our participation in this event in a future post, just look out for more Ella and Sam. In the meantime, this one’s for the Elysium and Special Day teams and all the hard work everyone put into it. We love working with you guys. Enjoy!

Welcome to the blog and the new home for the Snappy Joe Photo Booth! As the first post to this blog, you’ll have to forgive me for feeling a bit sentimental, because I FINALLY got this chance to give our booth its very own little home on the web. It’s been a super busy summer, and it’s hard to believe it’s already over–the kids are in school, the sun is setting early, and the wedding season is quickly coming to an end. This has been a pretty amazing year for us, especially for the photobooth, which took off faster and went further than we ever anticipated during its first months in business. Our fun little passion project to setup at our friends’ weddings and events has turned into much much more.

We are blessed to have worked with incredible people at amazing locations all over So Cal. The clients, guests, fellow vendors, venue staff, and everyone else we have met along the way have been so encouraging to us as a new startup trying to find our way in this huge industry. I am going to be completely honest here and tell you I am horrible at managing life, photography, and business (the worst being the business), so thank you so much to everyone for being patient with us. There is definitely a lot for us to learn and we are making every effort to improve wherever we can.

Our biggest thanks has to go to our parents and brothers, who have been taking care of our little ones every single weekend. With all our last minute schedule changes, late-night gigs, and payment with spare centerpiece flowers, they have always been gracious to watch our two adorably cute and always well behaved children :) Your support means a lot to us and we would not be able to do what we love without you.
